ANALYSIS OF LIQUID WASTE MANAGEMENT AT DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG’S HOSPITAL

Abstract


Background : The hospital is an institution that service activities of preventive, curative, rehabilitative and promotive health. These activities produce solid, liquid, and gas waste. Liquid waste can cause diseases and environment pollution so need special waste management. Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang’s Hospital producea lot of liquid waste.

Method : This study is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. Sources of information consist four informants. The research are using depth interviews, direct measurement of influent and effluent, and observation.

Result : The results showed that the liquid waste at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang’s Hospital derived from all activities at hospital. On the liquid waste management, hospital is not doing the separation of medical and nonmedical liquid waste, there is liquid waste disposal and there is Waste Water Treatment Process(WWTP) itself, and effluent dumped in the Bendung’s River and the environment. Results of direct measuring the effluent showed that ammonia concentration have above the standard quality Environment Cabinet Minister Kep58/MenLH/12/1995 about the quality standard of water waste hospital.

Conclusion: Generally, liquid waste management in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang 2010 was eligible to Minister Decree No. 1204 of 2004 on Requirements for Hospital Environmental Health
