THERAPEUTIC EFFECT OF PSYCHOEDUCATION ON KNOWLEDGE AND ANXIETY LEVELS IN FAMILIES CARING FOR FAMILY MEMBERS WITH PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS DISEASE

Abstract


Background : TBC disease is a major public health problem in Indonesia . The number of tuberculosis patients has increased every year. The psychological impact of disease on individuals and families in the form of anxiety about the disease and economic burden for family.This study was aimed to determine the effect of therapy for psychoeducation of knowledge and anxiety level of the family in caring for a family member with pulmonary tuberculosis in the city of  Bengkulu in 2011.

Method : Quasi-experimental research design pre-post test with control group on 65 sample. The consist of samples were 30 peoples for intervention group and 35 peoples for control group.

Result : The results showed that there was a difference knowledge (p value = 0.000) in the care of family members who had pulmonary tuberculosis after a family psychoeducation treatment between the intervention and control groups. But there was no difference in anxiety levels with the family (p = 0.952) in the care of family members who had pulmonary tuberculosis among the intervention group with the control group after group of a therapeutic intervention psychoeducation . Research recommendation that psychoeducation was a mental health treatment for families by providing information and education through communication therapeutic to increased knowledge and decreased anxiety levels.
