ANALYSIS OF FACTORS THAT CORRELATE WITH NURSE PRODUCTIVITY AT BHAYANGKARA HOSPITAL PALEMBANG 2014

Abstract


Background : The role of human resources is needed in hospitals because it is directly related to the customer satisfaction. Nursing services become a key factor of hospital services. Hence, they are expected to give the high work productivity and achieve goals which have been decided previously. In order to achieve maximum growth of work productivity, some subsidiary factors are needed. The aim of this research was to analyze factors that were related to nurse productivity at Bhayangkara Hospital Palembang 2014 based on motivation, work ethnic, training, work climate, salary and management.

Methods : A survey research using cross- sectional design was selected to achieve the aim of the research. All nurses in Bhayangkara Hospital Palembang were selected, The number was 71 respondents. Univariate as well as bivariate statistics were used for analyzing the data.  Prevalence Ratio (PR) with 95% confidence interval was used for prevalence analysis. Moreover, chi square statistic was used for bivariate analysis  before using multiple logistic regression analysis.

Results : The bivariate  analysis  revealed that factors that were related to  nurse productivity  were motivation (PR and  95% CI=1.829 (1.043-3.209)), training (PR and 95% CI = 2.062 (1.249-3.406)), work climate (PR and 95% CI = 1.931 (1.203-3.101)), and salary (PR and 95% CI = 2.509 (1.380-4.560)).  However, work ethic (PR  and 95% CI = 1.391 (0.88-2.201)) and management (PR and 95% CI = 1.026 (0.640-1.647)) were not related tonurse productivity. Furthermore, multivariate  analysis revealed  that the variable that had highest correlation with nurse productivity  was salary.

Conclusion : Nurse productivity at Bhayangkara Hospital Palembang was influenced by motivation, training, work climate, and salary. It is recommended that Bhayangkara Hospital Palembang should monitor and evaluate their nurse productivity, policy about reward and punishment program, and also salary system. Apart from that, the hospital must also provide a career development program which is equal for every nurse, chance to enroll training, and continuous education for nurses.
