DETERMINANT OF OCCURENCE PNEUMONIA AMONG UNDER FIVE YEARS OLD CHILDREN BETWEEN AGE 6-59 MONTH IN WORK AREA OF KEMALARAJA PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER OF REGENCY OGAN KOMERING ULU

Abstract


Background : Pneumonia is the leading killer of under five children worldwide. The biggest prevalency of pneumonia in Regency OKU is in work area of Kemalaraja Public Health Center, that is equal to 21,79% from 60,87% coverage of prevalency pneumonia in OKU. Therefore this research aim to know the determinant of occurence pneumonia among under five years old children between Age 6-59 month in work area of Kemalaraja Public Health Center of Regency OKU 2010.

Method : This research represented by case control study. Minimum Sampel required as 30 case and 60 control with the comparison 1:2. After that data processed and analysed by univariat and bivariate by using Chi-Square test and α= 0,05.

Result : From the results of research known that there was a significant association between nutrition (p-value = 0,028; OR = 4), exclusice breastfeeding (p-value = 0,001; OR = 5,231), density of under five children’s room (p-value = 0,000; OR = 7,5) and existence of family member which smoke (p-value = 0,005; OR = 4,375) with the occurence pneumonia among under five children between age 6-59 month. Suggestion of this research that staff of kemalaraja public health center along with community can create the healthy behavior and environment for under five children, like do not smoke indoor, giving just breastfeeding to baby until age 6 month, attention to sufficiency of under five children’s nutrition, and attention to the healthy house condition specially rest room for under five children.
