THE CORRELATION PATTERN OF CONSUMPTION SNACKS CONTAINING ANTIOXIDANTS WITH THE GENERAL HEALTH CONDITIONS IN CHILDREN PRIMARY SCHOOL/ISLAMIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE MALANG CITY

Abstract


Background: These problems on the shifting patterns of food intake behavior, such as the selection of foods that are cheap, comfortable with an attractive appearance but do not pay attention to the content of the nutritional value. A group of school children who are at risk of experiencing health problems due to intake of food additives (food coloring, flavoring and preservatives). This study will examine the correlation pattern of consumption of snacks containing antioxidants with the General Health Conditions in Children Primary School/Islamic elementary schools in the Malang city.

Methods: The study used a correlation approach, the entire student population of SD / MI in the Malang city. Samples were taken by simple random sampling technique, obtained each 1 SD represents 5 District in Malang, obtained a sample of 305 students. Excavator to dig observation data with the general health condition and a questionnaire to assess the consumption pattern of snacks at school. Furthermore, the data collected were analyzed using non-parametric correlation statistic to test Ho Rho spearmer at the 0.05 level.

Results: Results showed that health conditions are generally healthy with a good indication of nutritional status, Presence rare illness, physical examination the general condition of health. Child snacks SD / MI who consumed enough natural antioxidants. Ho of the correlation analysis was accepted, which means there is no significant correlation of the General Health Conditions in Elementary School Children / Islamic elementary schools in Malang (p value> 0.05).

Conclusion: This study suggests the need for cooperation the Education Department with Health Department about socialization of foods that contain natural antioxidants to empowerment UKS and school cafeteria technical. Suggested for further research by providing a natural antioxidant treatment in the form of snacks with common health conditions in the period of time (3 months).
