EFFECT OF NUTRITION EDUCATION OF BREAKFAST CONSUMPTION IN SELECTED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AT DEPOK CITY, WEST JAVA

Abstract


Background : Breakfast is eating activity in the morning which is done before starting daily activities. The benefit of breakfast is to raise blood sugar level and increase concentration of learning.

Method : Design of this study was quasi-experimental using pre and post-intervention. Intervention activities conducted in the form of learning and play using the media (posters, leaflets, picture cards and quartets) and methods (discussion groups, play and quiz contest), held every week for a month.

Result : The results showed that after the nutrition education was increasing nutrition knowledge score of 1.50 ± 1.27 (p<0.05) and attitude score of 1.00 ± 0.63 (p<0.05). Increased knowledge and attitude scores highest in SD Negeri compared with MI/Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (p<0.05).

Conclusion : Need the cooperation between the departments of primary education with the elementary school and religion department with the MI school (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah) to add nutrition education in the curriculum and to develop a media of CIE (Communication, Information and Education) are more interesting, varied, not boring in nutrition promotion activities about balanced diet particularly the benefit of breakfast for students.
