ANALYZE THE DETERMINANTS OF STUDENT BUS DRIVER UNSRI PERCEPTION ABOUT THE RISK OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
Abstract
Background : Traffic accident is serious safety problem throughout the world, the same problem also faced by Indonesia. The police RI data in 2009 mentions occurred at least 57 726 cases of road accidents and it was known that 91% were caused by human factors. Traffic accidents are also a risk for students UNSRI bus driver transporting students from Palembang to Indralaya and vice versa. This study aims to analyze the determinants of student bus driver UNSRI perception about the risk of traffic accidents on the road Palembang-Indralaya.
Method : Descriptive analytic cross sectional approach. The samples are UNSRI student bus driver (bus Bukit and bus Pasar), amounting to 132 people. The research data were analyzed quantitatively by the method of univariate, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis with the test.
Result : As many as 65.9% of students UNSRI bus driver has a good perception of the risk of traffic accidents. With α = 0.05 showed that there are relationship between how to get a driver's license, knowledge, attitudes and communication with a traffic accident risk perception. Based on the results of multivariate logistic regression analysis, there are three of the most influential variables, namely attitude, knowledge and communication.
Conclusion : The importance of driver safety should be instilled by UNSRI by making a commitment to ensure the safety of drivers and safety regulations and procedures. UNSRI and private parties should be more selective in choosing a driver that is really worth driving a bus of students and equip them with knowledge, skills training and proper driving techniques that can reduce the risk of accidents.
