Abstract

Background : Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease which decreasing prevalence of the disease slowed and tends to constant in Indonesia. DHF is an acute illness and can cause sudden death if not promptly given help. The Working Area of Sosial Public Health Center is DHF endemic areas which the cases increased from 33 cases in 2010 to 63 cases in 2011. The purpose of this study was to determine the occurrence of DHF determinants in the working area of Sosial Public Health Center in 2012.

Method : This is quantitative research with unmatched case control design and furthermore conducted interviews with open-ended questions to explore the information on some of the research variables. Number of samples was 34 cases and 34 controls. The data were analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square test.

Result : Statistically, the variables which have significant related to the occurrence of DHF disease is variable practices of PSN (p-value = 0.004; OR = 6.4), the habit of hanging clothes (p-value = 0.028; OR = 2.9), the use of mosquito repellents in noon (p-value = 0.015; OR = 4.1), the use of bed nets (p-value = 0.041; OR = 3.6), the density of occupants (p-value = 0.010; OR = 4.1), and the breeding places (p-value = 0.033; OR = 3.3), while unrelated variables are the sleep habits of morning / afternoon (p-value = 0.627; OR = 1.3) and the installation of wire netting (p-value = 0.324; OR = 1.6).

Conclusion : There is a significant relationship between the practices of PSN, habit of hanging clothes, use of mosquito repellents in noon, use of bed nets, occupant density, and breeding places with the occurrence of DHF diseases. Maximize efforts to prevent the DHF transmissions and improve the performance of DHF eradication program.
